UK Data Service: Survey and Census Data

This source includes a series of resources in the form of guides and e-books dedicated to trainers and students interested in sample design, weighting, changes over time using cross sectional and longitudinal data and mapping census data using different software.

UK Data Service: Teaching with Data

This is a collection of resources dedicated to teachers, trainers and their students but could also be useful to researchers and the general public. It includes guides, e-books, slides and webinars covering a wide range of topics: quantitative methods, statistical software, teaching data analysis, data visualisation, qualitative methods and psychosocial approaches.

DigCurV - Digital Curator Vocational Education Europe Project

DigCurV, was a project funded by the European Commission’s Leonardo da Vinci programme to establish a curriculum framework for vocational training in digital curation launched today.

Europe’s digital sector has seen strong growth in recent years. The pace of development and change in the information technology sector presents challenges to cultural institutions responsible for management and long-term preservation of digital collections. Ensuring that staff gain access to the necessary training is a challenge that institutions face. A Market and Trend Analysis Report completed by DigitalPreservationEurope shows that digital preservation is becoming one of the main strategic priorities for institutions – they are increasingly aware that digital resources are fragile and that they are at risk.

DigCurV addressed the availability of vocational training for digital curators in the library, archive, museum and cultural heritage sectors needed to develop new skills that are essential for the long-term management of digital collections.

Open Education Resources

Open Education Resources (OERs) are digital resources used in the context of teaching and learning that have been released by the copyright holder under an open licence permitting their use and re-purposing by others.

We believe that open educational resources play an important role in supporting our vision, purpose and values; to discover knowledge and make the world a better place, and to ensure our teaching and research is diverse, inclusive, accessible to all and relevant to society.  In line with the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Educational Resources we also believe that OER can make a critical contribution to achieving the aims of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals which the University and Students Association are committed to through the SDG Accord.

CLARIN Legal Information Platform

The platform aims to introduce researchers with basic notions related to the legislative and licensing framework in Europe on Copyright and Data Protection:

CLARIN Depositing Services

One of the fundamental services of the CLARIN infrastructure is making sure that language resources can be archived and made available to the community in a reliable manner. To help researchers to store their resources (e.g. corpora, lexica, audio and video recordings, annotations, grammars, etc.) in a sustainable way, many of the CLARIN centres offer a depositing service. They are willing to store the resources in their repository and assist with the technical and organisational details. This has a wide range of advantages:

  • Long-term archiving: a storage guarantee can be given for a long period (up to 50 years in some cases)
  • Resources can be cited easily with a persistent identifier.
  • The resources and their metadata will be integrated into the infrastructure, making it possibe to search them efficiently.
  • Password-protected resources can be made available via an institutional login.
  • Once resources are integrated in the CLARIN infrastructure, they can be analyzed and enriched more easily with various linguistic tools (e.g. automated part-of-speech taggingphonetic alignment or audio/video analysis).
FD Mentor

Roadmaps, recommendations for action and good practice examples for the strategic development and improvement of research data management at German-speaking universities are developed for subsequent use. The focus is on the development of tools for strategy development for research data management, models for institutional research data policies, and a consulting and training concept

European Commission guidance on the context and Horizon 2020 rules on open access to scientific publications, open access to research data and research data management. Contains multiple reference documents.

 

Research Data Netherlands (RDNL) Support

Research Data Netherlands is an alliance between  4TU.Centre for Research Data, Data Archiving and Networked Services (DANS) and SURFsara. With this coalition, which is also open to other parties, the three data archives join forces in the area of long-term data archiving.

Digital Curation Centre

The Digital Curation Centre (DCC) is a centre of expertise in digital curation with a focus on building capability and skills for research data management. They provide expert advice and practical help to research organisations wanting to store, manage, protect and share digital research data.

Amongst the many resources they provide, they have a section of training materials available for developing and/or delivering research data management training. This includes their own DC 101 training materials for training researchers, as well as training materials for librarians and research administrators. They also point to training materials made available by other providers.
